Handbuilt homes & my homies who made them

"I've never felt so homesick for a place I never lived at"
-says Alex Y.

I just got back from 4 days with my lady Janet on her land in the mountains sleeping in the home she built. These photos are of my friends homes, two communities of folks living off the grid in NC.

so near and yet so far

Tulip Sweet & Her Trail of Tears sang a fantastic cover of what I now know is the Starlight Children's Choir singing "So Near and Yet So Far" off of the E.T. I LOVE YOU & Other Extra-Terrestrial Songs for Children. When I was in Los Angeles a few weeks ago the song came up in rotation on a mix and I jotted down the name. Upon looking for the song or some sort of footage I only found some nerdy bloggers writing about it. However, you can download the entire album which is pretty intense, but worth skimming. BUT "So Near and Yet So Far" is a jam, you just may not realize it at first. Listen to it twice.

You should fall into these film poster paintings from Ghana. I got the book "Extreme Canvas: Movie Poster Paintings from Ghana" when I was in LA about them, but this guy has a bunch that aren't in that collection on his blog (which is totally ruling btw). Here are some of my picks:
